Last Thursday, June 6 saw Xavier’s Year 11 debating team compete in the Ian Murphy Memorial Debating Competition run by Rotary International at the Corowa RSL club in front of a large crowd.
Taking the affirmative, Anjil Henry, Haylee Dixon and Jessica Webb argued the very topical issue that elite sports are in crisis.
Tori Colls could not attend on the night being lucky enough to be off enjoying an amazing life changing experience aboard the Young Endeavour in Newcastle.
All three girls put forward very confident and strong arguments, showing excellent skills in public speaking.
Unfortunately they were narrowly defeated by Corowa High School.
A huge thank you must be made to Luke Parkinson for being the Xavier Staff representative on the evening. He commented that the girls were very impressive on the night and that it was a very close competition.
Congratulations to our debating team for their participation on the evening and we look forward to our next competition.
If any students are interested in joining Xavier’s junior or senior debating teams please show your interest by speaking with me.
