Year 11 Students James O’Brien and Elyse Boyer from the Sharks Water Polo Club will go head to head this weekend with the three time winners, Albury Tigers Water Polo Club this Sunday April 2nd.
SHARKS will be out to spoil Albury Tigers’ bid for three straight premierships in the A-grade men’s competition at Albury Swim Centre on Sunday.
After losing to Albury in all six of the teams’ regular season fixtures, Sharks turned the tables on their rival in the qualifying final to post an emphatic 9-7 victory.
And they will be hoping to repeat the dose on Sunday against a significantly diminished Tigers outfit.
Albury will go into the decider without star centre forward Nick Dempsey who suffered a serious neck injury after the Christmas break and driver Harry Duck who moved to Germany on exchange in February.
Albury has struggled at times without the pair in the second half of the season but found form when it counted, defeating last year’s runners-up, Pool Pirates, in the elimination final 6-3.
The women’s grand final will see the same two teams fight it out in what promises to be a hard-fought and heated contest.
Albury will need to be at its best to end the Sharks’ run of four straight premierships, especially with National League player and Young Achiever of the Year and Xavier High School graduate, Brooke Dickie coming back for the game.
