Again another jam packed term at Xavier regarding sport. Students have had opportunities across several sports to represent the school with some notable results. Here is a quick breakdown of what sports have taken place:
|Cross Country||Unfortunately we were unable to hold the full school fun run/walk section of the cross country due to bad weather so this will be rescheduled for next term when hopefully we have some sunny days. We sent a number of students to the BISSA carnival in Griffith and had several representatives make CCC finals.|
|League Tag||The senior girls competed in a gala day at the beginning of term. They were solid throughout the day but were unable to come away with the trophy having to settle for 3rd spot after losing in the semi’s.|
|Soccer||Both our BIll Turner Boys and Girls competed in a knockout gala day early in the term, with the boys unsuccessful in their progression it was up to the girls to fly the flag and have now progressed to round 4 against Kooringal High after defeating James Fallon, Albury and Cootamundra High Schools. We wish them all the best in their progression to regional (and hopefully state) finals.|
|Basketball||The open boys and girls teams travelled to Sydney for CCC Championships in last week. They competed strongly and made the most of their opportunity but narrowly missed finals.|
|Equestrian||This year saw a larger contingent of students compete in a number of individual events at the Albury Equestrian centre. All competed gallantly with a number of students placing in events.|
|Football||This year saw a slight change in age divisions for football with U14 boys, U15 girls and U16 boys competing in round robin games before the final next term. All teams have been successful in games against James Fallon, St Paul’s and Murray. With the game against Billabong High having to be postponed until the start of next term due to weather all teams are hoping to qualify for finals.|
|Netball||5 teams travelled to Wagga for the Diocesan carnival this week with some mixed results compared to previous years. Our Junior and Intermediate A teams made finals but due to finishing second in their pools had to come up against a talented Mater Dei side and were unable to defeat them. The seniors competed well throughout the day and due to their being only one pool they needed to defeat Mater Dei in the last game to finish on top but were unable to narrowly coming second. Teams will compete in the Albury carnival in week 2 next term before travelling to Sydney for CCC finals.|
Also it is important to recognise some individual achievements at a high level. We have had several students qualify for All School representation. Mackenzy Muller made All Schools in swimming, Will Chandler and Adam Martin qualified in U15 boys football and Jack Scammell, Kimberly Opdam and Jarrad Duncan will compete in the Cross Country.
So, after all this we have lots more to come next term. We begin with a large number of students competing in BISSA Athletics on Thursday 21st July. This is a little later than has been in the past and hopefully the weather will allow for our talented students to compete to the best of their abilities. With Junior and Intermediate basketball trials beginning, Football and Netball continuing as well as a number of summer sport selections towards the end of term we will certainly not be slowing down too much. We are proud to be able to offer students the opportunity to represent the school in such a variety of sports and have certainly witnessed some great achievements from our students.
I encourage all students (and parents) to keep an eye on the Xavier High School Sport schoology page for any upcoming dates regarding representation as well as consider visiting the NSW CCC website for individual selections. Congratulations to all students who have represented the school and best of luck to others for upcoming events. Thanks also to parents for the early morning drop offs, assistance at different events and to Staff for support and coaching/managing of students.
