Xavier Sports Wrap Term 1 2017

Wow, what a jam packed term we have had at Xavier regarding sport! Students have had opportunities across several sports to represent the school with some notable results. Here is a quick breakdown of what sports have taken place so far:

Swimming BISSA Swimming saw a depleted team compete gallantly with several students qualifying for CCC championships in Sydney, Liam Dowling was awarded BISSA Age champion for the 17yr boys. At CCC our students competed well, most notably Mackenzy Muller finished 1st in the 50m freestyle. Congratulations to those who traveled and competed.
Rugby 7’s The local competition saw us compete against some of the other local schools. Unfortunately our senior and junior boys were unable to retain any of the shields from last year.
Rugby League/League Tag The senior and junior boys played after school on Monday nights and tried their best against some skilled opposition missing out on finals. The girls were a little more competitive but missed out on finals narrowly. A big thankyou to Mark and Olivia Beer who stepped in to coach the league tag teams this year in Mrs Warner’s absence.
Tennis Both the boys and girls teams competed well at Wagga but were unable to progress to the CCC championships. Hopefully they will build strength and come back next year.
Hockey The gala day in Wagga saw both the boys and girls teams compete well coming away with wins.
Touch Touch trials for the Diocesan team was dominated by the Wagga schools, however, teams gained some valuable experience and came away better for that. Congratulations to Jake Nicholson and Austin Longfield who were selected as shadow players in the junior boys Diocesan team.
Soccer Open selections in Griffith saw 2 players selected in the Diocesan team, Isaac Reid and Isabella Godfrey. Good luck to both who compete in Sydney next term.
Triathlon We had one student travel to Sydney for the CCC Triathlon where they competed valiantly against some older and more experienced competitors.
Cricket Our senior and junior boys teams played in the final against Albury High earlier in the term with the juniors taking out the Millikan Cup.

So, after all this we have lots more to come next term. Currently trials are taking place for the Junior boys and girls Soccer teams, senior and junior boys and girls AFL teams as well as trials beginning next term for Netball and Basketball. We begin next term with the school Athletics carnival as well as seeing students represent the school for Cross Country in week 3. Still to come later in the year will be junior Basketball, Waterpolo, Equestrian, BISSA Athletics and Chess. It is a big term ahead but we are proud to be able to offer students the opportunity to represent the school in such a variety of sports.

I encourage all students (and parents) to keep an eye on the Xavier High School Sport schoology page for any upcoming dates regarding representation as well as consider visiting the NSW CCC website for individual selections. Congratulations to all students who have represented the school and best of luck to others for upcoming events.
