Students from Xavier and Catholic College rose early one Sunday morning during the school mid-year break to catch the train to Melbourne for the launch of the ‘One Year to Go, for the World Youth Day Festival’; WYD will be held in Krakow, Poland from July 25th – 31st, 2016.
The students and I attended a beautiful spirit-filled Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark Edwards and a number of other priests from across the four dioceses of Victoria. Mass was followed by a variety of delicious Polish dumplings and soup made by Pierogi Pierogi, which everyone was invited to share. Plus we had the opportunity of entering the competition to win an ‘all expenses paid trip to WYD’16 Krakow’, unfortunately none of us won this fantastic opportunity, so we will have to make our own monetary arrangements.
Assisting us to immerse ourselves in the Polish spirit we were entertained by a group of traditional Polish dancers. ‘Fr Rob Galea and the Stronger Band’ led us through praise and worship including dancing, displaying once again as Fr Rob says, ‘There is no party, like a Catholic party!’ We left the celebrations on high as we headed back to the railway station for the trip back to Albury.
