Welcoming Our New School Psychologist

The CSO is pleased to announce that each Secondary School across the Wagga Wagga Diocese has appointed a Psychologist to their their pastoral care and wellbeing teams. We are very pleased to welcome Kristy Ward take on this important role at Xavier High School.

Kristy is a Registered Psychologist with extensive experience working with children, young people and their families. Kristy is skilled in providing a range of evidence-based interventions, including counselling, consultation, support, and implementation of psycho-educational programs. We are confident that the appointment of a full time Psychologist at the school will result in an enhanced care and support for the school community.

You may be aware that in the past we have required parental consent if a student is to see the Counsellor however this will change. Going forward, and in line with the the Australian Psychological Society professional and ethical guidelines, students will be able to self refer to the School Psychologist. Whilst parental consent is not necessary for an initial session, parental involvement will be encouraged. Referrals can also be made by parents, and teaching staff. Alternatively, you can contact student admin or your House Coordinator to make an appointment. Here is the link to the consent that a student would be agreeing to in the event that they see the School Psychologist. CSO Psychology Service Consent Form

You can find Kristy in the front office next to the student admin desk. You are welcome to introduce yourselves and/or ask any questions you may have. This is a new service being established and we look forward to receiving your feedback and suggestions.

The School Psychologist will work in a consultative, resourceful and supportive manner with a strong focus on achieving the best outcomes for students. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact Kristy or a member of the Leadership Group.
