RE: STAGE 5 SUBJECT SELECTION for 2017
Year 8 and 9 students are invited to consider their Stage 5 Elective Subject choices for 2017. To assist these students in making their choices we will be hosting two information sessions.
Students will attend a Subject Selection Information Session during school on Tuesday 26th July. Students will hear from each of the Key Learning Area Coordinators who will present information on the elective options available. At this time, students will also be informed on how to make their selections via the online subject selection program.
A Stage 5 Elective Handbook will be published on the school website and Student Central from Monday 25th July. Hard copies will be available from the school office for those who need or prefer them
The second information session is aimed at parents. We invite you to attend a Parent Information night for the 2017 Stage 5 Subject Selection on Wednesday 27th July from 6pm to 7pm in the CAPA Hall. At this time, parents will receive information regarding the elective options in 2017. We have some new offerings for our Year 10 cohort in 2017 with the introduction of Stage 6 VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses. More information on this opportunity will be provided on the night.
On this night, our current Year 9 students will showcase their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) projects. We look forward to our parents being a part of our STEAM SHOWCASE from the ‘Mission to Mars’ program. Also at this time we will provide information on the STEAM enterprise that has been developed here at Xavier.
There has been much publicity at a national education level regarding STEM and STEAM. The Federal Government has placed great importance on STEM initiatives in the Education sector from Kindergarten to University levels to ensure students have opportunities to engage in STEM or STEAM due to the importance and value of the skillsets associated with STEM. Many employers demand that potential employees have these skills. We are very excited with the unique and dynamic STEAM enterprise here at Xavier, and the many and varied benefits it offers our students in authentic learning and the development of the 21st Century skills that the program encompasses. We are the envy of many schools with our STEAM timetable line.
We ask that all elective subjects for Stage 5 are chosen by Friday 29th July at 11am. Students will be provided with an opportunity on that morning during Homeroom to make their selections at school. Each student will have received a printed form on which to record their preferences. The form, with a parental signature, should be brought to school on Friday 29th July and handed in to the Homeroom teacher. This is to ensure that your child’s choice has your approval.
If your child will be absent on this day, these selections can be made from home from Wednesday 27th July.
Should you have any questions regarding the process we ask that you see either Peter Robinson or Nicole Morton at the Information Session on the Wednesday evening. Alternatively you could email Peter Robinson (email@example.com) with your questions.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 27th July, 2016 at 6pm in the CAPA Hall.
