Year 8 and 9 students are invited to consider their Stage 5 Elective Subject choices for 2018. To assist these students in making their choices we will be hosting two information sessions.
Our experience has been that Year 9 students are sufficiently well informed to make their choices without this input. However, students who are keen to hear the presentations may obtain the permission of their House Coordinator to attend.
A Stage 5 Elective Handbook will be published on the school website and Student Central from Monday 24th July. Hard copies will be available from the school office for those who need or prefer them
The second information session is aimed at parents. We invite you to attend a Parent Information Night for the 2018 Stage 5 Subject Selection on Tuesday 25th July from 6pm to 7pm in the Arts Centre. At this time, parents will receive information regarding the elective options in 2018.
On this night, our current Year 9 students will showcase their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) projects. We look forward to our parents being a part of our STEAM SHOWCASE from the ‘Tiny Life’ program. Also at this time we will provide information on the STEAM enterprise that has been developed here at Xavier.
There has been much publicity at a national education level regarding STEM and STEAM. The Federal Government has placed great importance on STEM initiatives in the Education sector from Kindergarten to University levels to ensure students have opportunities to engage in STEM or STEAM due to the importance and value of the skill sets associated with STEM. Many employers demand that potential employees have these skills. We are very excited with the unique and dynamic STEAM enterprise here at Xavier, and the many and varied benefits it offers our students in authentic learning and the development of the 21st Century skills that the program encompasses. We are the envy of many schools with our STEAM timetable line.
We ask that all elective subjects for Stage 5 are chosen by Friday 28th July at 11am. Students will be provided with an opportunity on that morning during Homeroom to make their selections on line. Each student will already have received a printed form on which to record their preferences. The form, with a parental signature, should be brought to school on Friday 28th July and handed in to the Homeroom teacher. This is to ensure that your child’s choice has your approval.
If your child will be absent on this day, these selections can be made on line from home from Wednesday 26th July.
