The Sydney trip was wonderful for so many reasons! We learned, we laughed and we experienced theatre in a big city.
After this workshop we unpacked and got settled into our beautiful youth hostel at the rocks. We then attended ‘OnStage’, a showcase of the best Year 12 drama pieces from around New South Wales. This was awesome! The atmosphere in the Seymour Centre was amazing, and the pieces really set the bar Year 12 and gave Year 11 a taste of whats to come for them. The next day we attended a workshop based around Individual Project, and then later got to attend ‘Mother’, a one-woman show starring Noni Hazlehurst.
This show was moving, and insightful. It gave us all a taste of what theatre is like in Australia’s major cities. On Friday, we had the privilege of being shown around Sydney Theatre Company, and grasping an understanding of how a show makes it from page to stage! We then watched the 2018 ‘Intersection’, a show developed by young people in association with ATYP. It was so cool to see the things young actors in Australia are doing, and the opportunities and support that are there too! After a huge three days, we all piled onto the bus to come home. This trip was so beneficial and inspired all of us.
