New Streamlined Process for School Students Travelling by Bus

NEW: Rural/regional applications now online

Applications for school travel passes in rural and regional NSW will need to be completed online instead of using paper forms.

This change makes it easier to apply, as you only need to complete one form for each eligible address that covers all situations, including journeys that involve multiple transport operators or modes of transport.  It’s also easier for schools and bus operators, as Transport for NSW will now handle the applications.

This change only affects the application process; no changes to any public transport services are planned.

Regardless of where you live in NSW, you can now update your details online (e.g if the student changes address or school).

New applications for school travel passes for 2017 open from the start of Term 4, 2016.

Parents without ready access to the internet can phone 131 500 for assistance with their application.

Light rail available to eligible students from Term 3, 2016

From 1 July 2016, School Opal card holders and new applicants can apply online to travel on light rail services. If approved, students can use their School Opal card to catch light rail services to and from school at the beginning of Term 3, 2016.

Details of how to apply will be posted on this page from 1 July 2016.
