After winning the Albury and Lavington Lions Club heats respectively, Sharlet Medcraft and Jessica Mitsch (both in Year 12), competed in the Zone Regional Final of the Lions Youth of the Year Quest on Sunday March 10.
Both students had an interview with the three judges in the morning who wanted to know all about their leadership, cultural, sporting and academic pursuits.
In the afternoon, the competitors took to the stage with their prepared speeches and two impromptu speeches on the biggest challenges facing young people today and explaining how young people can influence politicians.
Both these girls spoke passionately and convincingly, but they were up against some stiff competition from schools as far away as Bright and Tallangatta. Whilst not successful on the day, this was a remarkable experience for the students who should be very proud of the way in which they conducted themselves.
They are fine ambassadors for themselves, their families and Xavier.
