Xavier High School was well represented at the Justice Matters Camp at Harrietville, by Dominque Beer, Nick Hayes, Matilda
Maroney, Jack McDonald and Sarah O’Brien. This camp is a joint initiative of Sandhurst and Wagga Diocese and Caritas Australia. A variety of workshops were offered on the following topics:
- Human Trafficking and Slavery
- Aboriginal Social Justice and culture<
Our students found the workshops and activities very powerful and they loved meeting like minded people from different schools.
Our Immersion students from last year presented a workshop on creating a Yarning Stick to take back Social Justice Messages back to their communities.
Victoria Keogh, Marisa Lo Bartolo, Fletcher Star and Jessica Mitsch ran two workshops that were enthusiastically supported. The message these students wanted to get across was to keep the conversations happening about injustice and the Yarning Stick was a potent symbol of this commitment.
Both groups would like to acknowledge the care and support of Kelly Humphrey from CSO. Also Matt Bradford and Mark Fawcett for helping to make the Yarning Sticks.
