Immersion Art Show & Auction Evening

On Friday, 26th August, we hosted our Annual Art Show and Auction Evening at Albury Tigers Football Club. The night is aimed to showcase some of the local Aboriginal Artists and also to raise money to help subsidise the costs of our Immersion Program to make it accessible for all students.

We had a fantastic turn out on the night by parents and staff and the students were very well represented. We were honoured to have guests from our Aboriginal Community present, with a highlight of the night the performance by students of the Burra Ferra, lead by Heidi Nicholson. This is a song from the Yorta Yorta Nation one of our guests was overwhelmed at hearing a song that her mother used to sing as a young person. She thought it was beautiful.

Our very own Darren Wighton, opened the night with a traditional Welcome to Country and also showcased some of his amazing artworks. We are grateful to Darren for his terrific contribution to our school in this area.

The auction was an outstanding success for the students, with the assistance of entertaining and enthusiastic auctioneering by Tom Last, who is currently on a “Gap Year” from Xavier, but was happy to come back and assist for the night. We thank Adrian “Pud” Keogh and David Benson for their assistance during the auction.

I’d like to thank Ed Brown for his MC duties on the night; Paula Gleeson and Peter Williams for manning the door; Anna Muir, Belinda Warner, Tegan Baines, Ben Thomas, Louise Dow and Sam Gosbell for their help to set up and do odd jobs on the night; and also a big thank you to Heidi Nicholson, Ingrid Hopwood and the office staff for all the behind the scenes work.

Without the amazing support of the parents of these students, the evening wouldn’t have been the success it was. I am very grateful to you all for seeking donations, providing food and bidding fiercely.

We’d like to acknowledge the following for their contributions to the auction:
