On March 8, Xavier’s hockey teams (open aged girls and open aged boys) travelled to Wagga, to compete in the Diocesan Hockey carnival. Besides the fact that it was extremely hot, both the girls and boys teams had a very successful day. Both teams were undefeated in all matches.
The girls defeated Mater Dei 4-0 and Kildare 2-0. Grace Baker was on fire scoring 4 goals. Bonnie Baker and Ashley Gould also scored 1 goal each. Sharakena was an outstanding junior player. Maddison Creamer was unbeatable as usual as goalie.
The boys came up against Kildare in their first game. The boys struggled early to net any goals. It took an overturned goal decision for Kildare in the final 7 minutes to open the scoring for Xavier HS and we were able to score 3 quick goals through Zac Fuller, Taylor Baker and Lincoln Morrison. After some much needed water and a short break the boys were back out on the field to play Mater Dei. Mater Dei were looking strong after beating Kildare in their first game however by this stage the XHS boys were gelling a lot better as a team. Taylor Baker managed to finish the game with six goals and Lincoln Morrison and Noah Erdeljac two each resulting in XHS winning 10-1. It is a very exciting time for XHS boys Hockey with half of this years team in year 7 and 8. Well done Boys.
A big thanks to all players who played extremely well in the heat and were so well behaved on the day. Also a big thank you must go to Maddison Creamer’s poppy who supplied the hockey players with some much needed icey poles on the day. It was just what they all needed.
