On Tuesday the 1st of March, our junior and senior cricket sides contested the Milliken and Rixon Cup finals. Both games were played against Albury High on our ovals.
Milliken Cup (U15)
In the Rixon Cup final, Xavier won the toss and elected to bat. With some tight bowling and early wickets, Albury High were well in command at 2 for 12 after 10 overs. Eddie Keogh (22) and Darcy Smith (17) got Xavier back on track and at drinks, after 18 overs, Xavier were 3 for 63. Wickets fell quickly after the break and Xavier was in trouble at 7 for 84 after 25. Some outstanding batting late saw Xavier scramble to a competitive total of 142 with Charlie Langford (20) and Liam Parkinson (20) doing most of the damage.
With Albury possessing a dangerous batting lineup Xavier had to bowl well to defend this total. Our bowlers did not disappoint! The boys bowled and fielded with great discipline to restrict Albury to 3 for 5 after 6 overs. Charlie Langford collected three key wickets and finished with 3 for 4 from 5 overs. Albury never really recovered from their slow start and wickets fell at regular intervals throughout their innings. Jack Heriot collected 2 late wickets to have Albury all out for 67. An excellent effort by the whole team to see our Under 15’s crowned the Milliken Cup Champions for 2015/16.
Rixon Cup (Seniors)
In the Rixon Cup final, Xavier won the toss and elected to bat. With early wickets, Albury High was well on top at 4 for 33. Wickets continued to fall and at 7 for 42, Xavier looked to be in trouble. Some late rear guard action from Cooper Boyle (21) and Luke Dahl managed to get our score to 64.
Going out to bowl, the boys were on their game early. Whilst achieving a low score themselves, the boys bowled and fielded with great enthusiasm. Adam McLennan was fantastic in the opening spell with three key wickets to have Albury High reeling at 3 for 10. With the game now in the balance, Ben Williams tore apart the middle order with 4 for 5 off four overs. In what was truly an amazing effort, the boys managed to bowl Albury High out for 53, leaving them as the Rixon Cup Champions for 2015/16.
