CCC Senior Basketball

On Monday and Tuesday June 17 & 18, our Senior Boys basketball team travelled to Penrith to contest the NSW CCC Championships. Throughout the two days the boys applied themselves extremely well, proving excellent ambassadors for the school.

On day one the team defeated Gilroy College, Castle Hill in the first game quite comfortably, but was narrowly defeated by St Dom’s Penrith in the second game. The last game for the day saw us come up against the traditionally strong St Edwards of Gosford. In a spirited performance, with injuries and tired bodies, the boys pulled through with a convincing win. This saw us finish second in our pool, pitting us against St Pat’s Fairfield in the quarter final.

The boys started extremely well in the quarter final and despite being undermanned through injury, stayed with the St Pat’s team the whole game. The much bigger Fairfield squad became frustrated at not being able to shake us with tensions running high. To our boys’ credit they kept their cool and played an excellent brand of basketball. Unfortunately they could not quite get over the line, losing by five points.

Congratulations to all the boys who were a part of the team and to Jody and Steve Newton for their assistance with scoring over the two days. A special thanks to Jane Mackinlay who came away and acted as team manager for the two days.
