The Albury-Wodonga Mental Health forum, will be held for the third year on September 9 at Albury Entertainment Centre. The forum caters to Albury and Wodonga high school students, giving them a better understanding of depression and related complaints.
12 students from Xavier High School, Years 9, 10 and 11 have been invited to attend the forum to listen to guest speakers, a panel of mental health professionals, police and people who have overcome mental illness.
The students have being invited to the forum to gain a better understanding of mental health and the impact it has not just on the person, but also on families, friends and carers.
Xavier student Lucy Findlay from Year 10 will be a speaker at the forum. Lucy will speak about activities and initiatives undertaken by Clark House with the aim of inspiring other schools to develop similar ideas, activities and programs at their own respective schools and communities and improve the mental health and wellbeing of all students.
The program is also about improving access for young people to appropriate services, addressing the stigma associated with mental health and to recognise that a great deal can be done to promote a better understanding of mental health issues in schools and in the community.
