Athletics Carnival Details 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Friday April 28th our Athletics Carnival will be held at Alexandra Park. Please note that this is the first Friday of Week 1, Term 2.

Students are required to make their own way to Alexandra Park by 8.45am. Bus travelers are encouraged to speak to their driver or Bus Company for information on drop off points and travel. Students need to have their names marked off by their House Coordinator as well as have their competitor number written on their arm, before joining their Houses to support their teammates throughout the day.

As was the case at the swimming carnival, students must compete in the age group they are turning this year. Students may race up in the relay only, but can only run in one relay event. Students in the 12yr age group will compete in the 13yr age group, however, will be able to progress to compete at BISSA level in the 12yr age group.

The first events begin at 9am. Students in the 14yr age group will be required at the venue at 8.25am if they would like to participate in the long jump event. Due to the growing number of students participating in events on the day we have had to remove some events from the program and complete them prior to the carnival at school. Students are encouraged to check schoology regularly for exact timing of the following events for both male and female age groups:

  • 13 Year High Jump
  • 15 Year Javelin
  • 16 Year Discus
  • Senior Shot Put

Whilst students are encouraged to show support of their team by dressing up in House colours, clothing needs to be appropriate and not revealing, particularly singlet tops. Please be mindful of being Sun Smart on the day by wearing a hat and sun cream. Sun cream will be available throughout the day at the announcer’s tent and in House areas.

Students are also encouraged to bring plenty of water/drinks to stay hydrated. The canteen will also be available to purchase food and drinks from.

Students who finish in the top 2 in their age group for all events (top 4 in the 100m) will qualify for BISSA representation on the 27th July. It is expected that all students meet this expectation and represent the school on this day.

Obviously active participation is requested from all students to help make the day a success but it is reminded that they are representing Xavier on this day and appropriate behavior is expected.  With the carnival set to conclude at 3.20pm, students should be free to leave the venue at normal end of school time (3.25pm).

Any parents who would like to assist throughout the day would be welcomed. These parents can report to myself on arrival at Alexandra Park.
