Xavier’s Senior and Junior Football teams played semi-finals against Albury High School last week at Xavier Oval 1 and 2 in the Ross Henshaw and Xavier Tanner Shield competition. Xavier High School Seniors 14 – 10 – 94 def Albury High School 7 – 7 – 49
Xavier’s game against Albury High School saw a lacklustre performance by Xavier, but a comfortable victory. Xavier kicked 6 goals to nil in the 1st quarter to take a match winning 37 point lead to the 1st break. In the 2nd quarter Xavier went into cruise mode and Albury woke up. Both teams kicked 2 goals and Xavier led by 40 points at the main break. In the 3rd quarter Albury rallied and kicked 5 goals to narrow the margin to 29 points at the last change. Xavier lifted in the last quarter and went on to record a 45 point win. Harry Nunn was outstanding at half forward and through the midfield. Fletcher Carroll was solid in the middle, giving Xavier first use of the ball. Lachlan Tiziani and Zach Sproule presented well up forward and outclassed the Albury defence. Alex Packer was solid in defence. Xavier’s teams have both progressed to the AWSSFA Grand Final on Wednesday 16 July (Week 1, Term 3) at Lavington Oval. The game will be under-lights, Juniors at 5.00 and Seniors at 6.30pm.
